Oh, boy. It has been a while. I'm back and trying something pretty new (for me).
About a year ago, I was preparing for the birth of my 3rd child. my second child was only a little over a year old and I was worried how she was going to react to the new baby (little did I know that she LOVES babies and I had nothing to worry about). I went around to all the toy stores in search of a realistic baby doll that I could pretend was mine in front of her until the real one was born. But, I could not find one! I went online and started reading about "Reborn Dolls" and all the work that went into making them. I had no desire to pay $300+ for something I thought I might be able to make myself, and what a wonderful thing to give to my daughter when she grew up!
So, I bought an armature from my local hobby store as well as some doll eyes. Both made by Secrist and slapped some Sculpey polymer clay on it. I scrapped my first try, did it again, then again and again and again. Then, my baby was born and I stopped trying.
7 months later, I'm at it again with an armature made from paper and tape (it was the only way to get the new eyes to fit) and the results are much better. The armature made by Secrist has eyes, nose and ears on it and you just ad your clay and can make an individual face over it. It leaves no room for mistakes, and I think that may have been my problem.
So, here we are again. sculpting my daughters' face in hopes I'll have a life-like doll in her image one day. I just need to keep at it.
